Need help with Markdown Preview? We’re happy to assist. The app is read‑only, works fully offline, and has no accounts — so most questions are quick to answer.
Common questions
How do I open a Markdown file?
Double‑click a .md file in Finder, drag it onto the app icon,
choose File → Open… (⌘O) inside the app, or right‑click a
file and choose Open With → Markdown Preview.
Which file types are supported?
.md, .markdown, .mdown, and
.mkd.
Can I edit documents?
No. Markdown Preview is deliberately a viewer only — there is no edit mode and no save command. Edit your files in your preferred editor and reload (⌘R) to see changes.
Why doesn’t a local image load?
Under the macOS App Sandbox, images next to a document may not load unless you opened that file through the app’s file picker. The app shows a placeholder when an image can’t be reached.
How do I change the theme or text size?
Click the gear icon in the toolbar to open settings, or press ⌘, for the Settings window. Use ⌘+ and ⌘− to adjust text size, and ⌘⇧T to toggle light/dark appearance.
Does the app collect any data?
No. Markdown Preview collects no data and makes no network requests. See our privacy policy for details.
